How to Tarp a Load of Lumber
Tarps usually come in a wide variety of materials, sizes, and even functionality. There is also no one-size-fits-all solution for these products. It’s essential for you to know the perfect kind of tarp and size for your needs. Lumber Tarps are used to protect the load from debris, ice, inclement weather, and other damaging elements during transport. It’s the perfect kind of tarp to use to cover a load of lumber.
Learning how to tarp a load can be challenging. Besides, whatever you’re hauling, it won’t matter how fast you get your load to its destination if it’s damaged during transportation. That’s why tarping is such an essential component of the shipment. It’s also a vital skill for a trucker to know how to tarp a load correctly.
First, make sure that the load of lumber is distributed correctly. You must keep the load of lumber evenly distributed on the trailer to prevent any areas to be too tall or too wide for the Lumber Tarp to cover.
Next, place the folded Lumber Tarp on top of the load. Most tarps are quite heavy, weighing nearly 100 pounds. It’s better to have help or use a forklift to place the folded Lumber Tarp on top of the load.
Then, unroll the Lumber Tarp. Make sure the Lumber Tarp covers the load of lumber evenly on each side the way you spread a bedspread cover.
Finally, secure the Lumber Tarp. You can use tie-downs, ratchet straps or bungee hooks. Make sure the Lumber Tarp is secure and tight. It shouldn’t have loose corners that could catch the wind. Flapping parts of the tarp can cause it to tear easily or loosen the other areas of the cover. It may also cause unanticipated problems during the transportation.
